Comfort is a curse
There are enough modern Stoics to remind you that “the obstacle is the way” and that you need a little friction. This isn’t a cold plunge sales pitch, it’s a dose of Scared Straight. Comfort is a curse and it promises to doom us all.
Comfort is liberation from pain, but pain takes many forms. Boredom, longing, struggle, uncertainty, and grief all register as pain to your mind. Let’s imagine a world without them.
In the Comfort Zone there is no boredom, so no one is inspired to create. No longing, so no one seeks connection. No conflict, so no one learns to listen. No struggle, so no one tries to innovate. No uncertainty, so no one needs to learn a thing.
All progress relies on humans who needed to say something “wrong” before it was eventually redefined as “right.” Progress isn’t comfortable.
Obsession with comfort is why modern life sucks. Work-from-home, snackable content, delivery everything, the numbing soma of the scroll. The Comfort Zone is boring and inhuman.
Occasionally choose discomfort or the universe will choose it for you.
