Own fewer, better things

There is a clothing store in Oakland, California whose slogan is unforgettable: “Own fewer, better things.”

Not “less is more,” but less as more.

It covers more than menswear. Devour three vital books rather than skimming three dozen flaccid ones. Lock down that cleaver for life instead of replacing it every two years. Buy the hand-spun wool peacoat for Pete’s sake.

Let “fewer, better” become a shorthand justification for saying yes to the best and no to the rest.

Living with integrity means living with fewer, better things that matter. Focus on what feels right. Let go of anything not worthy of you.
